“Long Drive Home”
I started Fruitvale Station after trying to watch a Christmas movie from the general Christmas movie genre. I had to try to finish my album list however and listened to Collective Soul’s latest entitled Vibrating. I think the lead singer put across what he was feeling. There are a few lines I didn’t quite like as the best choice in songwriting on first listen, but those could have been developmental decisions. Now I am on Ozzy Ozbourne’s Patient Number 9. The first and title track is one of the most present and nostalgic rock hits I have heard in a long time. The seriousness and character in Ozzy’s lovable, yet respectable personality are unmatchable. Funny thing was, I think he told me in spirit to just finish this list, cancel the trial to Tidal and then do albums as I normally did after that. I love the line, “When the sun goes down, the animals cry. That’s a sound you won’t forget.” The next big thing about this album besides the cover are the featured guitarists. This is a big presentation like it could be anyone’s last album! This could be Black Sabbath, but I guess we are in a free and present state, ironically. The final point is that Ozzy use to say things like, “I don’t believe that God is dead”. Now it sounds he is pissed off at God, his mother and doesn’t believe in Jesus. Is he speaking for himself? “If there’s a God, why’d he let the devil do his work on me? Oh, yeah. If there’s a God, what am I doing here?” Regardless I still like Ozzy Ozbourne. He holds the same presence and I’m sure he has grown deep in the friendly, jagged edge of a rock leader who continues to tick passionately forward through our age.
Title of this post from “Nothing Feels Right (feat. Zakk Wylde) by Ozzy Ozbourne”. Chosen while listening to the song for the first time…
